Adapting Therapeutical Responses To Emerging Needs
What I learned during PH's October workshop in 2025 was the power of adapting our therapeutical responses to the context and the needs we encounter. We talked about the power of prayer, poems, family and even politics. Today I want to share an approach that I has a lot of potential for healing and that is the Horse assisted therapeutical approach, a model in co-creation with Co Create Humanity. Read more about this approach here : https://hub-ph.on-forge.com/directory/70-helene-rousse Welcome to the Community Hélene and your team of horses !

1 week agoAfter carefully reading the materials and discussions on Adapting Therapeutic Approaches to Emerging Needs, I believe that the evolving challenges faced by individuals and communities require mental health professionals to remain flexible, innovative, and responsive in their interventions.
One approach that particularly captured my attention is Horse-Assisted (Equine-Assisted) Therapy. As a clinical psychologist and trauma counselor, I recognize the importance of integrating experiential and non-verbal therapeutic methods alongside traditional counseling approaches. Many individuals, especially trauma survivors, adolescents, and those affected by displacement, conflict, or humanitarian crises, may struggle to engage fully in conventional talk therapy. Alternative approaches can provide valuable pathways for healing and emotional expression.
I also believe that as humanitarian needs continue to evolve, there is a growing need to explore diverse evidence-informed interventions that promote resilience, emotional regulation, trust-building, and psychosocial well-being. While such approaches may not be accessible in all contexts, they encourage us to think creatively about how we can better support individuals with different needs and backgrounds.
This discussion has reinforced the importance of continuous learning, innovation, and adapting our therapeutic practices to ensure that mental health and psychosocial support services remain relevant, inclusive, and effective in addressing emerging challenges.
Again One of the key strengths of this approach is its ability to engage individuals who may find conventional talk therapy challenging. The horse's natural sensitivity to human emotions provides immediate feedback, helping clients recognize and regulate their feelings in a safe and supportive setting. This is particularly valuable for trauma survivors, adolescents, and individuals affected by displacement, conflict, or other psychosocial stressors.
As emerging mental health needs become increasingly complex, integrating evidence-informed approaches such as equine-assisted therapy can enhance therapeutic outcomes and promote holistic well-being. By remaining flexible, culturally sensitive, and open to innovative interventions, mental health practitioners can better meet the evolving needs of diverse populations while fostering resilience, empowerment, and recovery.
