Anchoring Mental Health And Psychosocial Support In Humanitarian Responses: Consolidation Amidst Ongoing Challenges
10 downloads
Overview
Published in 2026 amid the ongoing civil war in Sudan and protracted crises in South Sudan, Ethiopia, and Somalia, Resilience in the Shadows addresses a significant gap in the MHPSS literature: the mental health of refugees and internally displaced populations within Africa, written from and for African and regional contexts rather than high-income resettlement settings. The book brings together researchers, clinicians, policymakers, and community practitioners — many of them working directly in the affected regions — to examine the psychological impact of forced displacement and, critically, the community and cultural resources that sustain resilience. Rather than centring deficit or pathology, the volume consistently asks: what are people already doing to survive and recover, and how can practitioners support and scale that?
